THE FOREIGN RESORT – Great Britian, Denmark and danishness mixed up together

The Foreign Resort
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

They created the band in 2006, released debut album “Offshore” in 2009. And now they recorded an EP like a dream. THE FOREIGN RESORT. There’s only one question: how much the British is in those Danes? I think that enough to embarrass the British citizens. And enough to make them (any any other people) fell in love with The Foreign Resort’s music.

Spy from Aalborg - WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE at Studenterhuset

WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE at Studenterhuset
(report and photos by Agata Kłusak)

New section on the blog. "Good, because it's Danish" has a spy in Denmark :) Right in Aalborg. The spy is Agata Kłusak. She will be smuggling reports and photos from concerts in Studenterhuset for you.

To (awesomely) start with -  few words and few photos from last night's (29.10.2011) gig of WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE.

BTW - nice coincidence, first posts on both POLISH and ENGLISH version of the blog were about... WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE :)

So, here it is - WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE at Studenterhuset, Aalborg.

Interview with THULEBASEN - "Music is an universal language"

THULEBASEN

Three musicians. Their debut album "Gate 5" is unique. Three super-nice people. They care about what they say, because they know the meaning of words. Felia, Niels and Nis met up with "Good, because Danish" in Copenhagen, before  THULEBASEN concert at Lille VEGA (as a support of tUnE+yArDs) 08-09-201.
What we were talking about? Listen to.

"Polish people joined the massive!"

by Agnieszka Bolek

"They took us by surprise. Usually it takes time to 'rock the house', but their music just suddenly exploded and they threw their energy out from the very beginning. They didn't have to wait long for people to join them."

QUADRON - soothing balm for your soul

 Quadron
(translation: Arletta Przynoga)

Coco Maja Hastrup Karshøj i Robin Hannibal

Electro-soul duo. Or soul-electro duo. That’s how they describe themselfs. And they are two people. She and he. QUADRON.
Soothing, pleasant, swaying, balsamic, divinely sweet sounds of Copenhagen.

MARIE FISKER - Danish delicacy and mystery

.
Marie Fisker

The vocalist with a deep, trudly beautiful voice. The music like a rose – a mixture of fragility and feminity together with mystery and thorn twinge. Musical Denmark which discovers a bit dark, a bit unrecognized areas. Addictive and uncopyable creativness – Marie Fisker.

Big thanks to Maciej, “Dobre, bo duńskie” reader, for letting me know about such a music pearl.

GIANA FACTORY - Danish raw femininity

Giana Factory
(translation by Agnieszka Bolek)

Danish women prove, once again, that the genuine musical strength lies deep down inside them. After such magnificences as: Darkness Falls, Oh Land, The Asteroids GalaxyTour, Marie Fisker... (just to name a few). It is high time to give a careful listen to music made by trio - Giana Factory, more severe, feminine embodiment of WhoMadeWho. Although not quite exactly alike. With a little touch of electronic coldness. Distinguished.

WAKE ME FOR COFFEE - delicate wake up in a... cup

Wake Me For Coffee

Electronic sounds – checked. More stirring music – checked. Stimulating atmosphere – checked. Subtle tunes – checked. A little bit of calm playing – added. This is (more or less) the music mix proposed by a man who’s hiding under the nickname WAKE ME FOR COFFEE. „Good, because it’s Danish” adores coffee. „GbD” also liked the music coffee served by Wake Me For Coffee.

LEAP OVER LIGHT - honest sound, true sound

Leap Over Light
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Another not trite female vocal from Denmark. Another band which career is just beginning. Indie music, interesting atmosphere, a little bit of unconventional pop, a little bit of around-folk climates and charisma which can be heard in each song. Listen to LEAP OVER LIGHT. You won’t regret it!

FALLULAH - 100% of female beauty

 Fallulah
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

A tremendously great voice, positive message, intriguing lyrics and playing with the vocals – Fallulah.

If you like Marina and the Dimonds, Florence and the Machine or Sara BareillesFallulah will be just perfect for you!

SLEEP PARTY PEOPLE - is it a dream or is it a truth?

Sleep Party People
(translation by Agnieszka Bolek)

SLEEP PARTY PEOPLE
If you read the post about Efterklang on "Good, because Danish" blog, you know what I mean when I say that I am not able to describe a band in a sensible, clear, orderly way, because I love their music too much and emotions prevail (by the way - the hero of this post supported Efterklang).
So today I give voice to others, and allow you to form your own opinion about this project, which is so unusual and unique, which balances between reality and dream so phenomenally that, that... ohh... and ehh...

You've got an incredible musical journey with Sleep Party People ahead of you - Follow the white rabbit...

THE ASTEROIDS GALAXY TOUR - OPENly OPEN alternative POP

 The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

This band was one of those Danish groups that visited Poland this summer. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour played at 10th edition of Heineken Open’er Festival in Gdynia. Some cool summer sounds. Check them out, you won’t regret it :)

THULEBASEN - a different point of view on... everything

Thulebasen
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

They play „future rock”. Amazing, innovatory, psychedelic music combined with classic rock sounds. Plus a solid dose of... well, „Danishness” (something which cannot be described).

Supposedly there’s no rush in their music. But on the other hand they can play a song which stops the heartbeating.  Unearthly trio – THULEBASEN. Increadible music that shows its true beauty very slowly but very effective.

DARKNESS FALLS - darkness sings and doesn't fall at all!

Darkness Falls
(translation by Ania Kitowska)

On one hand there is undescribable and undefinable energy. On the other hand, there is something melancholic and awakward to it. Female delicacy and strength at the same time. All of it and even more you may hear at the newest EP of Darkness Falls. Warning! Danger of falling in love and getting addicted!

Darkness Falls is a duet established in 2009, which consists of Josephine Philip (vocals and keyboard) and Ina Lindgreen (bass and guitar). Two talented Danish women have released an EP titled “Darkness Falls” in March.

KISS KISS KISS - energy kiss of spring

Kiss Kiss Kiss
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Kiss Kiss Kiss

Today a group of young, talented Danish guys will take us on a trip to the land of sunny, bright sounds. Spring sounds. Danish spring. Nice guitars, extremely grown up vocal plus whiff of fascination of a bit more dancing music. Open up on a Spring experience and let Kiss Kiss Kiss kiss you to death with their music!

CODY - Western atmosphere with Scandinavian flair.

nordic-music.blogspot.com

Cody
(translation by Agnieszka Bolek)

The band, which sounds family-like.
The band, which sounds alone-like.
The band, which sounds familiar and newly at the same time.
The band, which connects many contradictions. CODY.

THE RAVEONETTES - summer sounds

The Raveonettes
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

The Raveonettes: Sune Rose Wagner i Sharin Foo

Time to go back to the warming sounds. After The Floor Is Made Of Lava, now we’re going to experience summer sounds from the duo The Raveonettes. They will help us transform to the 60’, somewhere to the California beach, somewhere where’s warm, but not necessarily idyllically.

TREEFIGHT FOR SUNLIGHT - magical music journeys

Treefight For Sunlight
(translation by Ania Kitowska)

TREEFIGHT FOR SUNLIGHT

Light, graceful, pleasant. In addition, with undefinable emotions. Treefight For Sunlight. A wonderful LP, which is difficult to get over, once listened to. If you enjoyed The Eclectic Moniker (nordic-music.blogspot.com music discovery), there is a likelihood, that (like me) you will fall in love with Treefight For Sunlight.

LE FIASKO and others - two in one, four in two, one in three.

nordic-music.blogspot.com

Le Fiasko
(translation by Agnieszka Bolek)

Le Fiasko

Do you know what it feels like to fall in love with a song at first listen? This happened to me many times, but I guess never before with such a great power as it was with "Kabul". It's probably one of the saddest, most beautiful songs I have ever heard. And it was created by Le Fiasko band.

VETO - you cannot veto this band!

nordic-music.blogspot.com

VETO
(translation by Agnieszka Bolek)

The band VETO is a perfect proposition for those, who like mix of rock with electro music and (I guess I repeat myself, but nevermind) something, that I call "Danishness" due to lack of better term. It seems like this description introduces just one of many average indie electro-rock bands, but I'd definitely veto that kind of stigmatization in this case!

THE SHAKING SENSATIONS – post-rock with capital „P” as Pure beauty

The Shaking Sensations
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Today's post will be a bit different. My fascination with post-rock is one, but the knowlage about this genre of music is the other. It's hard for me to write about it. So I decided to leave it to those who probably knows a lot more about post-rock than I ever will. Because it would be a huge pity to ruin the post about such an amazing post-rock band from Denmark. People who knows a lot about this kind of music says that THE SHAKING SENSATIONS are "the ambassadors of Danish post-rock". Sure they are!

THE SEVEN MILE JOURNEY - post-rock with a capital "P"

nordic-music.blogspot.com

The Seven Mile Journey
(translation by Agnieszka Bolek)

The Seven Mile Journey

"Post- rock band from Denmark, which works with instrumental music since 1999. The members are: Nicolai, Jakob, Morten and Henrik. The basis of their music are dynamic changes. Deep, long and intense sound surfaces completely absorb the listener." - this is what description of The Seven Mile Journey on their last.fm profile says.

KISS ME SCARLETT - the triumph of guitars and policy of love

Kiss Me Scarlett
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Kiss Me Scarlett

What would you say for a little music kiss? :) Not from „It’s good because it’s Danish” – but from a really nice band. The band which demand a kiss from a girl named Scarlett.

KISS ME SCARLETT is a trudly joyful group, sharing their positive energy with the world through music. Smile, smile, smile and dance!

OH LAND – oh, what a music!

Oh Land
(translation by Magda Sawińska)

Let’s start a female topic. This time it's gonna be a lot of music, but only a little bit of writing

There's no point describing this beautiful, young and truly talented Dane – Nanna Øland Fabricius (known as Oh Land).
What you have to do is to listen to her music. If you like her, it's quite possible, you'll also enjoy listening to Fallulah (one of the next posts will be about her).

But let's focus on OH LAND now!

THE ECLECTIC MONIKER - music discovery of nordic-music.blogspot.com

Today a lot of music news which came to me from different nice people. First I had a crash on Alcoholic Faith Mission which I discovered courtesy of a music fan from Poznań. Than, also courtesy of a music fan (this time from Łódź), I fell in love with
The Eclectic Moniker

ALCOHOLIC FAITH MISSION - intoxicating music, no hangover

Alcoholic Faith Mission
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Alcoholic Faith Mission

They don’t have too much in common with Denmark now, because they went to USA and was living in Brooklyn for a long time (although I guess they came back to Denmark lately). But they are Danish, that’s why they appear on this blog.

Alcoholic Faith Mission was created by Sune Soelunda and Thoreben Seiero Jensen in 2006 in Brooklyn. Than...

GINGER NINJA – ginger warriors attack with great sounds

Ginger Ninja
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Energy, spontaneity, positive vibes – if this is what you’re looking for in music, you can’t miss Ginger Ninja.

Climatic bass, a doze of nice keys and guitars – all supported by vibrant drums. Huge positive sounds which got this specific “something”. It attracts and makes your legs dance by their own.

THE FLOOR IS MADE OF LAVA - warm up!

The Floor Is Made Of Lava
(translation by Ania Kitowska)

Something to warm you up - THE FLOOR IS MADE OF LAVA. A piece of good rock music!

The band consists of Tobias Kippendberger, Simon Visti, Lars Rock and Asbjorn Norgaard was established in 2006.

KILL SCREEN MUSIC - deadly good music!

Kill Screen Music
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Kill Screen Music

I discovered the band I want to tell you about today because of the "godfathers" of this blog - Turboweekend.

Kill Screen Music is another sensational good Danish group which supported Turboweekend during their Spring tour in Denmark.

EFTERKLANG - can't be forgotten, evokes pleasurable memories

Efterklang
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Today I'll write about a band which is so magical that basiclly it's impossible to write anything valuable about it. Everything will be to shallow and it won't show the variety of the music. The longer I listen to Efterklang the more I'm impressed.

And I can't sort out my thoughts when I listen to their music.

AND YOU'RE OFF - Pearl Jam and Bloc Party on a music walk around Copenhagen

And You're Off
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

Five men. Five songs on one EP. Five stars plus the bonus award for style and keep the music in a bitter-sweet climate. You can’t disconnect when And You're Off are playing their music.

SILVER FALLS // MY SECRET MACHINE – sit back comfortably and relax...

Silver Falls // My Secret Machine
(translation by Arletta Przynoga)

http://www.facebook.com/silverfalls

We’re going to the music of Denmark slightly dreamy, slightly nostalgic, slightly absent and swinging in the clouds.

And this is thanks to sounds serves by Jakob F. Kristiansen. This Dane is the creator of two single projects - SILVER FALLS, and his latest "baby" - MY SECRET MACHINE.

Sit back, time for a little rest, peace and relaxation ...

TURBOWEEKEND - part 1

Turboweekend
(translation by Ania Kitowska and Arletta Przynoga)

I think it’s high time to write something about the musicians of... Turboweekend!

WHEN SAINTS GO MACHINE - to (awesomely) start with

When Saints Go Machine
(translation by Ania Kitowska and Arletta Przynoga)

Four gentleman - Silas Moldenhawer, Jonas Kenton, Simon Muschinsky and Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild. They live in Copenhagen. So far, they’ve recorder two LP's. The second one – “Konkylie” is due to may 21st , 2011. The music itself is amazing! If you’re into electronic sounds and you’re open minded when it comes to new musical experience – you’re about to fall in love with When Saints Go Machine.
